WEDDING ORDER OF SERVICE

What is a Wedding Order of service?
Your Wedding Order of Service is a way of guiding your guests through the ceremony, a timetable, letting your guests know what is happening and when.
At most traditional weddings the order of service is printed in booklet for each guest. Many couples match the design of this booklet to the rest of their wedding stationery.
DO I NEED AN ORDER OF SERVICE?
For those having a micro - wedding or a short ceremony or an eco - conscious affair or on a tight budget, you may be hesitant to print a traditional booklet style order of service. However there are other ways to present your order of service that can be adapted to suit.
For example many couples opt for one big sign with everything printed on it and displayed in a prominent position for everyone to see, or have a pull up banner printed with all the order of services details on it.

What should I include?
It is custom to include your names, the ceremony date and the location. For each part of the ceremony you normally include the time, what's happening, who is performing it and what music is being played.
For example: 10.30am Aisle Entrance...music Perfect by Ed Sheeran.
For a church wedding it is usual to include the words to any hymns for guests to sing along to.
You may also wish to include the names of the Bridal Party and Family members. You could also include at the end of the service a special thanks for those who have helped organise the wedding, or note that you want an Unplugged Ceremony.(No photos of wedding ceremony to appear on social media during the service).

www.straightshooterdiscos.co.ukemail: info@straightshooterdiscos.co.uk
tel: 01592774683 mob: 07775261740
Instagram: straightshooterdiscos

5 THINGS TO INCLUDE ON YOUR WEDDING INVITATIONS.

5 THINGS TO INCLUDE ON YOUR WEDDING INVITATIONS.
1. DATE TIME AND LOCATION.

The first thing to include on your wedding invitation is the obvious, the date, time and location of your ceremony. Be sure to also include your reception venue location if this is different from your ceremony location, along with reception start times in case guests have to travel between venues.

2. DIRECTIONS.

Give very simple concise directions to your locations along with the relevant addresses and post codes. If possible include a map with your invitations to avoid any complications.

3. PLUS ONES AND DRESS CODES.

Not everyone will know what to wear on your big day and similarly not everyone will have a partner or a plus one. Let guests know if you are having a themed wedding or themed dress code, so they can dress accordingly or if your ceremony or reception is being held in a field or on a beach, so maybe wear flat shoes.
Plus Ones, be firm on who can and who cannot attend your wedding. Do you want someone you have never met before being brought along? The same applies to children. If you want a child free wedding then let guests know well in advance that children are not invited . Sounds a bit harsh, but if you would rather they were not there, then better to let everyone know well in advance.

4. RSVP.

Include an RSVP card within your invitation complete with tick boxes or cross out options, along with a stamp addressed envelope. Alternatively do it all online and include an email address. You could also ask guests if they have any dietary requirements and add a return by date.

5. WEDDING GIFT LISTS.

If you wish your wedding guests to purchase a wedding gift for you, they may not know what you already have or may need, so a Wedding Gift List will make those choices a little bit easier for may of them. You could provide them with a link to your list, but try to ensure that it comes across that your gift list is not compulsory but more a list of suggestions if they are struggling for ideas.
Overall, remember its your day, your way and if you feel that something else has to be added to your invitations then go ahead and add it.
There are no rights or wrongs.

5 TIPS WHEN STARTING TO PLAN YOUR WEDDING

5 TIPS WHEN PLANNING YOUR WEDDING.
1. Set a date and choose your venue.
One of the first things you have to do when planning your wedding is to set a date and then choose a venue or venues. One of the best things about planning your wedding is getting to look around some amazing venues. Remember you may not always get the venue that you had your heart set on, so be flexible and have a couple of alternative venue choices as well.

2. Get Inspired.
Start by thinking about all the weddings that you have been to....What did you like about them?....What did you not like ?....What would you change?
remember, it is your day and it can be anything you want it to be.
Use websites like Pinterest for inspiration. Attend Wedding Fayres and meet wedding suppliers that are in your are and from further afield.
Create a scrapbook for all your ideas and you can refer back to it when planning.

3. Book your Wedding Suppliers.
Now that you've set the date and booked the venue you will need to book wedding suppliers to help you realise your vision. The average couple use between 13 - 15 suppliers, so its important to start booking them as early as possible. Entertainment and photography are among those who get booked up well in advance, so if you have a favoured supplier for these, get them booked as soon as possible.
Make sure that any suppliers you do choose, issue you with a written contract. Check their websites and social media pages to see what kind of reviews they are getting and what services they can provide.

4. Plan your budget.
With so many options for entertainment, photography, videography, venue decor, cakes and of course dresses, it is so easy to overspend. Set yourself a budget and keep referring back to it during the planning process. get several quotes for each type of supplier. Don't always base your choices on price alone.

5. Create your guest list.
Before booking your venue, take into account the number of guests you would like to be with you on your big day. Nothing worse than choosing the perfect venue and then discovering its either too big or too small for the number of guests you wish to invite. Deciding who to invite and who not to invite is not an easy task. Our advice would be to set up some rules beforehand and to stick to them. For example, if they are not related to you and you haven't spoken to them in several years...do you need to invite them?

Incidentally these basics can be applied to planning any type of celebration. Happy Planning.

James Bond Themed Birthday Party

James Bond Themed 50th Birthday Party

We recently provided the music and disco for a James Bond Themed birthday party.
The client had gone to a lot of effort to produce an amazingly decorated theme night for his 50th birthday. Being a James Bond fan he themed the whole night around Bond. Chairs and tables were decorated with covers with 007 embroidered onto them, large martini glasses were the table centre pieces. Guests came dressed as either Bond, a Bond character or an item from a Bond movie. The room was decorated with life size cardboard cut outs of the actors who played Bond, silhouttes of Bond placed throughout the room and our Purple Mood lighting. We also provided Gobo Projections of the 007 logo and the Bond logo from the movies. A casino room with Blackjack and Roulette were also set up. Guests were treated to a champagne and canapes reception on arrival and Bond theme tunes were played in the background while guests arrived and took their seats.

Why midnight is the best time to finish your wedding reception.

Why midnight is the best time to finish your wedding reception.

We are frequently asked to perform at wedding receptions until 1.00 am. Quite often this is a last minute change of plans as suggested by function managers/co-ordinators, as the original booking was until midnight.

Having been in the wedding business for 42 years, in our opinion it is not a good idea to extend the finishing times after you have sent out all your invites. In fact we try to encourage our clients not to have a 1.00 am finish from the outset.

it may seem like a good idea to keep the party going but there are many reasons why we would advise against it.

Why finish at midnight??

Firstly many of your guests including yourselves and the bridal party will have been up since the early morning getting ready for the big day. Many of your guests will have travelled quite a long distance either by driving themselves or by arriving by coach laid on by the bride and groom. depending upon where your guests are coming from and where the pick up points are for the coaches, some of your guests could have been travelling for several hours.

Guests of a certain generation may find it difficult to envisage staying on until the early hours of the following day and will tend to start to leave around 10.30. to ensure that they get home safely. Other guests may have very young children with them who will start to tire or have babysitters at home which means that they will dwindle away as well in order to let the babysitter home for a reasonable hour.

depending upon your location it may be quite difficult for guests to get taxis home after midnight, not forgetting the extra costs involved when booking taxis after midnight.

If you are having your wedding ceremony, wedding meal and you evening reception all in the same venue, this can be quite claustrophobic for many people as they will have been in the same building for anything up to 12 - 13 hours. If you are getting married elsewhere such as a church or registry office this will mean adding extra travel time for your guests.

Bare in mind also that if you are providing coaches for your guests and you finish at 1.00 am, the last person may not get off the coach for another couple of hours depending on how far the coaches have to travel and drop off points.

It is better to finish your night on a "high" with as many guests as possible still with you than to ads an extra hour on and watch your numbers drop, sometimes into single figures.

From the point of view of the couple's future memories, this is of paramount importance.

Some venues will try to encourage a late finish at your final meeting, in an attempt to try to sell more alcohol, but the wise venues realise that this doesn't happen as most people attending a wedding/function will only have a certain amount of money with them and when it runs out it runs out., so they will sit with one drink for the last hour.

From an entertainers point of view, we could charge extra for that extra hour, in fact many bands will charge double their hourly rate per member of the band which can add quite a substantial amount to your final bill. However we would rather finish with as many people as possible and give you an ending to your night to remember.

Doubtlessly, it will have been the best day of your life. Allow us to help ensure that the best memories last longest.

SPEECH GUIDELINES FOR BRIDES FATHER

Speech guidelines for the Brides Father.
1. as the host it is very much your place to welcome everyone, hoping that they have enjoyed themselves so far with more to come.

2. Welcome the grooms family and friends. It is generally understood that the brides family provide the hospitality, even if costs are actually shared.

3. Welcome the groom into your family, recount a funny story about the courtship or when you first met him. Give him your support

4. The most important part of your speech is your account of your daughter growing up. Her transformation from a baby to a beautiful woman about to leave your fold and embark on the journey into married life.

5. You may wish to give some advice to both your daughter and her husband, tell him how to handle her, her likes and dislikes and anything you can think of that makes for a long and happy marriage.

6. Finish by making the formal toast, along the lines of..."Family and friends, please be upstanding and join me in raising your glasses to...(names).., the bride and groom.

Sit down and enjoy the rest of the day.

Toasts and Speeches

Toasts and Speeches.

Toasts and speeches are often regarded as a great source of worry to the people who are called upon to make them, but it is a great honour to propose a toast or make a speech at a wedding and with a little bit of planning a great deal of satisfaction can be derived from the occasion.

A few basic rules.

1. Don't leave the preparation of your speech to the last minute.

2. If you don't bother to put much effort into your speech, you won't get much out of it.

3. Have the main points written down on paper or card, number the pages, write in large letters so that you can read them from the table while you are standing up.

4. Always use your own words as it makes it so much easier to memorise your speech.

5. Practice your speech before the day. This can be done with a friend who may offer some help or advice or by standing in front of a mirror when you have the house to yourself.

SPEECH GUIDELINES FOR THE GROOM.

1. Always start with "My wife and I" or "On behalf of my wife and I"...I would like to thank (brides fathers name) for his kind words.

2. Thank everyone for sharing the day with you.

3. Thank the member of the clergy/humanist/celebrant for the lovely service.

4. Give a special mention to guests who have travelled a long distance to be here, mention them by name.

5. A special mention should also be given to absent friends, who may live to far away, or are perhaps ill or no longer with us. End with "Our thoughts are with them as theirs I'm sure are with us".

6. Thank everyone for their gifts, if you wish make special mention of large expensive or sentimental gifts. refer to the gifter by name.

7. If the wedding cake has been made by someone attending the wedding, it is usual to mention the maker by name.

8. Thank your parents for the guidance, love, support, encouragement and for always being there when you've needed them throughout your life. Thank them for welcoming your new wife to the family and you can finish off with something lighthearted like "most of all thank you for putting up with me for the last number of years.

9. Now thank your wife's parents for the arrangements they have made and for welcoming you into their home as a member of the family. Now is a good time to present bouquets and gifts.

10. Address your wife at this point. Tell her how beautiful she is, how happy she makes you and tell her that you will strive to build an excellent future together. Be as sentimental as you like.

11. Thank the ushers and page boys then devote a few minutes to the best man. Tell your guests how long you have been friends, mention an amusing incident and finish by thanking him for getting you to the church and for looking after you at the stag night.

12. Finish your speech by proposing a formal toast to the bridesmaids along the following lines.
"May I take this opportunity to thank the bridesmaids, who I think everyone will agree look absolutely beautiful. My wife is very grateful for all the help you have given her, so please everyone be upstanding and raise your glasses to the bridesmaids".
